Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • loaf pan,
  • Parchment paper (optional, for easy removal)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Self-raising Flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup cooked and crumbled bacon about 4-6 strips
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives optional, for garnish

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures that your bread bakes evenly and comes out perfectly golden.

Step 2: Prepare the Baking Pan

  • Grease a loaf pan with cooking spray or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

Step 3: Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Whisk these ingredients together until well blended.

Step 4: Add the Cheese and Bacon

  • Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and crumbled bacon into the dry mixture. This step helps to distribute the bacon and cheese evenly throughout the bread.

Step 5: Combine Wet Ingredients

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, vegetable oil, and egg until well combined.

Step 6: Mix Wet and Dry Ingredients

  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay!

Step 7: Bake the Bread

  • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Step 8: Cool and Serve

  • Once baked, remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely. If desired, sprinkle chopped fresh chives on top before slicing for added flavor and a pop of color.
