  • Potato masher or fork
  • Deep frying pan or kadai
  • Slotted spoon
  • Plate or tray
  • Paper towels
  • Small bowls for slurry and coating

Ingredients

  • 10 cubes cheddar or mozzarella cheese cut into small cubes
  • 2 medium-sized potatoes boiled and mashed
  • 2 slices white or brown bread edges removed
  • 2 tbsp corn flour cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp plain flour maida
  • ¼ cup water for slurry
  • 2 tbsp fresh coriander leaves finely chopped
  • 1 green chilli finely chopped
  • ½ tsp ginger paste
  • 1 tsp mixed herbs like oregano, thyme, basil
  • ¼ tsp cumin powder
  • ½ tsp crushed black pepper divided
  • ½ tsp salt or to taste
  • 1 cup crushed corn flakes for coating

Instructions

Prepare the Base:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the boiled and mashed potatoes, chopped coriander, chopped green chilli, ginger paste, mixed herbs, cumin powder, salt, and ¼ tsp crushed pepper. Mix well.

Prepare Bread:

  • Dip each bread slice briefly in water and squeeze out excess water. Crumble it into the potato mixture. Mix everything thoroughly to form a smooth dough-like consistency.

Make the Cheese Balls:

  • Take a small portion of the mixture, flatten it in your palm, place a cube of cheese in the center, and seal it to form a smooth ball. Repeat with the remaining mixture.

Make the Slurry:

  • In a small bowl, mix the plain flour (maida) with ¼ cup water to form a smooth, lump-free slurry.

Coat the Balls:

  • Dip each ball in the flour slurry, then roll it in crushed corn flakes until evenly coated.

Chill (Optional):

  • Refrigerate the coated balls for 10–15 minutes to help them hold shape better during frying.

Fry and Serve:

  • Heat oil in a deep pan. Fry the balls on medium heat until golden and crisp. Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with ketchup or chutney.
