Equipment

  • 9×13 inch baking dish
  • mixing spoon,
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Oven

Ingredients

  • 1 box of butter pecan cake mix I prefer Duncan Hines or Betty Crocker
  • 1 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 ½ cups chopped pecans
  • 1 can 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract optional

Instructions

Preheat your oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it’s nice and hot by the time you’re ready to bake.

Prepare your baking dish:

  • Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray. This will help prevent the cake from sticking to the pan and make clean-up easier.

Spread the cake mix:

  • Evenly sprinkle the dry butter pecan cake mix over the bottom of your prepared baking dish. No need to stir it; just spread it out as evenly as possible.

Add the sweetened condensed milk:

  • Pour the sweetened condensed milk over the dry cake mix. Don’t stir! Just drizzle it evenly across the surface. The milk will help create a gooey, moist texture as it bakes.

Add melted butter:

  • Pour the melted butter over the top, covering the cake mix and condensed milk layer. This step adds that irresistible buttery flavor and ensures a rich texture.

Sprinkle pecans:

  • Sprinkle the chopped pecans evenly across the top of the cake. They will toast during baking, giving the cake that crunchy, nutty flavor.

Bake:

  • Place the baking dish in your preheated oven and bake for about 45 minutes. Keep an eye on it; the cake should be golden brown and bubbly. If the top looks too dark, check it with a toothpick to ensure it’s done. The toothpick should come out clean.

Let it cool:

  • Allow the cake to cool for a few minutes before serving. This will give the layers a chance to set and make it easier to cut into.

Notes

❖ Substitute Ideas: If you want to change up the flavor, feel free to swap out the pecans for other nuts, such as walnuts or almonds. You could also add chocolate chips or shredded coconut for a fun twist.
❖ Allergy Considerations: This recipe contains dairy, so those who are lactose intolerant might need to substitute the butter and sweetened condensed milk for dairy-free versions. Always double-check for allergens before serving to guests.
❖ Serving Tips: Serve this cake warm with a scoop of ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce. It’s the perfect combination of gooey, sweet, and rich.
