Ingredients
  

  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter cut into pieces and softened
  • 2 ½ cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup bread flour
  • 1 cup milk preferably warm, around 110°F / 43°C
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon bread machine yeast instant or active dry, formulated for bread machines

Instructions
 

  • Pour the milk into the bread machine pan. Then add the honey and the softened butter.
  • Sprinkle in the whole wheat flour and bread flour, covering the liquids. Add the salt into one corner of the pan and yeast into the opposite corner (do not let them touch at this stage).
  • Close the lid, select the Whole Wheat or Basic Bread cycle (with a medium crust setting, if available), and press Start.
  • The bread machine will knead, rise, and bake the bread automatically. This process typically takes between 3 to 3.5 hours depending on your model.
  • Once baking is complete, carefully remove the bread pan using oven mitts. Turn the loaf out onto a cooling rack and let it cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing.

Notes

You can substitute almond milk or oat milk for dairy milk for a dairy-free option. If using a delay timer, use powdered milk instead of fresh milk to avoid spoilage.
For extra softness, add 1 tablespoon of vital wheat gluten (optional but recommended when using whole wheat flour). This bread is great for sandwiches or toasting with butter and jam.
