  • 1/4 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/3 cup semolina flour
  • 1/2 tablespoon baking powder

  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter softened
  • 1/3 cup shredded cheese cheddar, pepper jack, or your choice
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup fresh jalapeños diced (seeds removed for milder flavor)

Instructions

Prepare Yeast Mixture:

  • In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

Mix Dry Ingredients:

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, semolina flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper.

Combine Wet Ingredients:

  • In another bowl, beat the egg and mix in the milk and softened butter. Add the frothy yeast mixture and stir until well combined.

Fold in Cheese and Jalapeños:

  • Gently fold in the shredded cheese and diced jalapeños until evenly distributed.

Knead the Dough:

  • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

First Rise:

  • Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Shape and Second Rise:

  • Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased loaf pan, cover it, and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes.

Preheat Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Bake:

  • Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool:

  • Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
