- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- ½ cup heavy cream

Prepare the Cake:
● Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour the cake pans.
● In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
● Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
● In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
● Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
● Stir in the hot water until the batter is smooth. Fold in the chopped Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.
● Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
● Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
● Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.
Prepare the Peanut Butter Frosting:
● In a large mixing bowl, beat together the butter and peanut butter until smooth and creamy.
● Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing well after each addition.
● Add the heavy cream and vanilla extract, and beat until the frosting is light and fluffy.
Prepare the Chocolate Ganache:
● In a microwave-safe bowl, heat the heavy cream until just about to boil.
● Pour the hot cream over the chocolate chips and let it sit for 2-3 minutes. Stir until smooth and glossy. Allow the ganache to cool slightly until it thickens but is still pourable.
Assemble the Cake:
● Place one cake layer on a cake stand or serving platter. Spread a generous layer of peanut butter frosting on top.
● Place the second cake layer on top of the frosting. Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining peanut butter frosting.
● Pour the chocolate ganache over the top of the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.
● Decorate with additional Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.
