Ingredients
  

For the Cake:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar

Instructions
 

  • Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan, ensuring it’s well-coated to prevent sticking.
  • Mix Dry Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  • Cream Butter and Sugar: In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy using an electric mixer.
  • Incorporate Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract, until fully incorporated.
  • Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with buttermilk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  • Bake the Cake: Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Prepare Strawberry Filling: While the cake is baking, prepare the strawberry filling. In a saucepan, combine the diced strawberries, granulated sugar, and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the strawberries soften and the mixture thickens slightly, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool.
